Fail Forward in Your Job Search - Sterling Career Concepts

Fail Forward in Your Job Search Fail Forward in Your Job Search Thomas Edison, one of the best-known innovators in American history, is credited with inventing the light bulb. However, it didn’t come to him in a flash of inspiration. It came to be after many failed attempts. During the middle of his grueling experimentation process, an assistant commented on “yet another failure,” to which Edison replied, “I have not failed. I just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.” Many failures are stepping stones to successful endeavors. Silly Putty was discovered when NASA scientists were working on new rubber polymers for space travel. Engineers stumbled upon the Slinky when designing new springs for machinery. The trick to success â€" especially during a job search â€" is to embrace each failure, no matter how large or stressful, as a learning experience and source of insight that helps move you forward. Failures can show you what doesn’t work or can give you an entirely new purpose or direction. In order to find success, you have to become comfortable with failure. In your job search activity, try new things and step outside of your comfort zone. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Take the hit and see what you can learn from it. In your job search as well as in any of your endeavors, whether you realize it or not, you are moving forward even when you fail. At this stage of your job search, how can you learn, grow, and succeed by failing forward?
